We had our eye on Poundfit as soon as we heard about it; a drumming inspired workout sounded like just what we needed. Being a very recent addition to the UK fitness industry, we jumped on the first available training, not knowing exactly what to expect other than rock music and drumming.
We’ve got to tell you; this class is better than invigorating! A Poundfit class combines cardio, conditioning, and strength training with yoga and pilates-inspired movements to bring you a real rockout workout.
Each Poundfit class is 45-60 minutes, in that time you are taken through a full body rockout workout using Pound’s signature ripstix; 1/4 lb weighted drumsticks engineered specifically for exercise that you use to hit the floor, hit the air, and hit together as you rockout to the class tracks. The PR people at Pound say that “By increasing your range of motion you not only improve your proprioception (how you relate to your body in space) and co-ordination, you also get a really powerful workout”. After you’ve completed your Poundfit class you’ll have completed up to thousands of reps, performed over 30 extended interval peaks, and zipped through more than 70 techniques without even realizing it.
POUND® was created in 2011 by two women who were both recreational drummers and former college athletes. They relied heavily on stability-based exercises like pilates to keep their bodies aligned, symmetrical and lean, but were bored with routine and longed to reignite the fun in exercise.
