The self-esteem project part 1

When we first set up Nine tea cups, we had one focus and that was our self-esteem workshops. We have run them for a few years now with great success; workshops are great because we get to work one-on-one with people. But we couldn’t help but think about people who can’t make it to the workshops. And what about people who aren’t even in the same country? Surely they deserve access to some self-esteem boosting too.

For that reason, we took a step back from our workshop format and decided to switch things up a bit. We’re mid-way through our parent and child self-esteem workshop currently, and we’ll blog on that later. But for now, we want to share something with you.

You are worth so much more than you will ever know. A healthy self-esteem just means that you are open to acknowledging that fact. You are at a point were you are open to saying to the world and yourself, “I’m happy with myself”.

People often confuse this acceptance with arrogance. As if being open to the concept alone will somehow shake up your personality to the extent that you are overwhelmed by how awesome you are and that this will in turn skew your perception of reality. Newsflash: It won’t. The only thing skewed about the confusion is the confusion itself.

It’s also worth mentioning that if you are the kind of person that questions yourself and your thought processes that much then the liklihood is that you’ll stop yourself in your tracks before you even get to “arrogance”.

In our workshops we have a saying; “Clever people question themselves, but when your questions lead to self-doubt they are no longer helpful or clever.”

So if you find yourself questioning whether accepting your greatness is actually good for you, then try reframing the question. Is it beneficial to you to ignore or even downplay your greatness?

“To  be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest achievement”

– Ralph Waldo Emerson
